At least not for real. People around me talk about it nonstop. I say we all drop it for two years and start worrying in 2011. | | | 12-31-2008, 02:55 PM | #2 (permalink) | | our stories are singular... There are hundreds of links. The Mayan calandar stops in 2012, so obviously that means we are going to die. | | | 12-31-2008, 03:32 PM | #4 (permalink) | | our stories are singular... But I didn't go into great detail about the opinions of those that actually believe in the 'coming apocalypse'. Grrrrrr. | | | 12-31-2008, 09:38 PM | #6 (permalink) | | anti-emo powah <33 Join Date: Nov 06, 2008 Posts: 47 | The Mayans believed that the apocalypse comes in 2012 and the reason that many people believe in it was because the Mayans were right about many things. They were an incredibly advanced civilization that developed things that we could only call phenomenons such as a temple that casts the shadow of a snake god entering or exiting the ground depending on the harvest season. However they were also wrong on probably more things then they were right. Also a big reason why its so popular is many religions (such as Christianity) see coincidences with their "end of the world" scenarios happening along the same time line. I don't buy it, but hell the Mayans were right about some things so maybe its one of them. | | | 01-01-2009, 01:54 AM | #7 (permalink) | | our stories are singular... Join Date: Nov 04, 2008 Posts: 691 | I think it's far more likely that the Mayans simply had to stop writing their calendar at some point. Considering 2012 was more than a millennium after their civilization, why not then? I don't see it as being "the end of the world" any more than Y2K. | | | 01-01-2009, 07:03 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 29, 2008 Posts: 3 | I'd say its more realistic than Y2K, even though it is talk about the end of the world. And I've read into many different opinions, and hypothesis about the coming of 2012. If they are right and say its going to be the end of the world...then that sucks, and I hope it doesn't happen. BUT...there's also talk that 'The Apocalypse' was misinturpreted by the Mayan calendar. It's also been looked to as a significant coming with our Solar System. For the first time in thousands of years, the Sun is closest to our galaxy, The Milkey Way. People have said that the close light rays, could cause people to go blind...or send in certain light rays that alter a person's reality. So I'm interested in the concept of 2012, but I'd much rather look towards the thought of everyone feeling like they are tripping on Acid, rather than dying to some weird phenomena that'll cause the destruction of our race. Either way it's a much more interesting than Y2K. | | | 01-01-2009, 07:37 PM | #9 (permalink) | | our stories are singular...
