Canons
According to our
canon policy, certain groups and positions require a canon character, while others are open to originals. The reason we have this policy is because Veritas Falsus's world is very intricate and we're all trying to tell a collective story, and we feel that players should have an 'in' with the rest of the world. In fact, for certain types of characters (hegemon officials, for example), it would not be practically feasible to have anything
other than canon characters.
Don't worry, though, we have a wide variety of canons, ranging from a number of backgrounds and characterizations, and we're confident that you can find something that you like. If you are absolutely stuck, you can always contact a staff member, who may be willing to help pair you with a character that fits. If you have any questions or concerns, we actively encourage that you use the
questions forum to ask them.
Please keep in mind that not all are immediately available. Certain canon characters on this site have special designation from the staff. If the canon's name does not have any markings next to it, it is open for anyone to attempt. However, some canons may have asterisks next to their name. This means different things depending on how many there are:
- If the character has zero (0) asterisks next to the name, that means anyone can apply for the character. It's safe to say that these characters usually won't be realm-changing, and we are comfortable with almost anyone applying for them.
- If it has a single (1) asterisk next to the name, this means the canon is still open for play. However, the standards for this canon will be noticeably higher than the standards for the average character. These characters are intended for experienced players who demonstrate a clear understanding of the world, as well as excellent writing and storytelling abilities. In short, these are for the advanced players.
- If the canon has two (2) asterisks next to the name, this means that the canon can only be applied for after the player has an accepted canon. The player must receive permission to play the canon from the questions forum. These characters have special significance within the Veritas Falsus world, and we wish to only give these out to players who have proven that they are active and helpful members of the community. As with a single asterisk, these characters are held to a higher standard of play.
- If the canon has three (3) asterisks next to the name, this means that the canon is held on storyteller's reserve. These characters are generally not played by anyone, but they can be referenced by other characters. They will usually only be mentioned in passing by the storytellers. Unless the storytellers/staff asks specifically, these characters cannot be applied for by any player.
It's possible that three asterisk characters may be given temporarily "on loan" for certain players in order to advance the plot. In this case, the players chosen will usually be plotters who are giving a helping hand. This does not necessarily mean that the character is theirs permanently.
