Name: Zinnia Elyse Almassy

The Zinnia is a genus of the flower family Asteraceae. Zinnias originate in Mexico, the American Southwest, and Central America, and thus thrive and bloom in harsh temperatures and sun exposure. Their petals are very colorful, and, in the time when gardening was just a hobby, gardeners planted them to attract butterflies to their gardens.

Elyse is the Germanic shortening of “Elizabeth.”

Almassy literally means “apple picker” or “apple seller” in Hungarian.

Zinnia's parents had no real idea of events to come, but they chose a very fitting name for their daughter. As a child, Zinnia stood out among her classmates in the realm of academics, and, later, she became the pillar of support for her parents as they struggled to survive the Pandemic and the Fallout. In the end, she walked away from her parents' graves with her chin up and her eyes to the horizon.

Zinnia is an odd sort of person in that what she fears has little to do with the outside world and has more to do with what's in her own head. After her mother died, she was left to fend for her life completely on her own. In the two weeks she spent scavenging for food and supplies and defending herself, she began to hallucinate -- she would catch glimpses of people (her parents and brother, specifically) out of the corner of her eye. In the dead silence that she often found herself in, she would hear whisperings of conversations she couldn't quite make out, and the horrors of the chaos her world had collapsed into haunted her dreams. Her only company was her own voice, and it wasn't until the third week of being alone that she realized her thoughts were far from rational: she would find more living humans, she wouldn't be alone forever, and she wouldn't die alone. By the time she found other living humans, she had recouperated enough to at least seem normal, and just two days of being around other people calmed her nerves completely.

Her other fears include a general fear of parasites and a fear of being eaten alive.
